Can anyone identify this bush/tree?

I live in the south east and there is a bush/tree that grows in the wild (mountian /strip-pit land) . In the summer the leaves are green and in the winter they bloom little white flowers. I've tried to dig them up by the roots and replant them, but they keep dying. What is this plant and how can I keep it alive?

Can anyone identify this bush/tree?
I'm thinking witch hazel, with little yellow flowers that look like puffs of shredded coconut. It blooms in November, where as Mountain Laurel blooms in late spring. RScott
Reply:sounds like Mountain Laurel
Reply:It does sound like Mountain Laurel. Are you digging the plants while dormant? Try digging while the plant is in dormancy and try getting them while they are very young, meaning you won't cut out too much of their roots when digging and transplanting.
