Do you read?

just for fun, other then school or anything. Not forced. Do you like reading? If so, why and what are your favorite books? If not, why?

I love reading. It really can take your mind off htings, its nice to get caught up in an imaginary world sometimes, escape from reality.

Favorites are catcher in the rye, perks of being a wall flower, choke, INTO THE WILD, Fahrenheit 451, Martian chronicles, harry potter.

Do you read?
Have always been a voracious reader.

A recommendation: Try the "Chronicles of Prydain" by Lloyd Alexander. It's a fine series (The Book of Three is the first one), and it has a very "sassy" young princess who's much smarter than any of the guys.

You might also like Alexander's "Vesper Holly" series.

Good luck!
Reply:I was an occasional reader until recently, when I believe I caught the "bug." I've always focused more heavily on writing, though reading is of course an important exercise in a writer's life. I found it somewhat monotonous until I began to better understand technique and plot structure and all of that. I guess it sort of gave me a new set of eyes, though it doesn't override the initial sensation of reading which is that of sensual connection. It did help to revitalize and sharpen my ability to make those connections, however.

I am somewhat into science fiction but many things as well in literature, like you seem to be given your list. I like Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fahrenheit, 2001, Douglas Adams (pretty much any of his books), and many more.

As a side note, since you seem to be a Clarke fan, I might suggest a book I picked up for a dollar (!) today, called "Childhood's End." It was first published in the fifties and is really dated (I've only read a small bit but it is set in the 80s -90s and has already made several cold war references and anti-communist type remarks by characters). It is really fun though, and I am also a Clarke fan. Pick it up if you can find it, it's a nice addition to your collection :).
Reply:Yes I love rading. I read to read and absorbe facts but.....smoe people read to get away fromthere real life and some read because they don't have alife. but you know!I read also because I am a writer!Toodles with noodles!
Reply:Well, I certainly read, since otherwise I would be incapable of answering this word-based question. I try to read as much as is humanly possible, but that's an entirely different story.

I have to say I'm impressed with your reading list. Choke is Palahniuk's best work, and you can't go wrong with Bradbury. But to follow him up with an inferior work like Potter is an insult to the master.

You should read Catch-22 and read as much Vonnegut as you can get your hands on. That'll push Potter and Perks off of your list.

Someone just suggest Childhood's End. I'd echo that suggestion; it's a phenomenal read, although it was responsible for inspiring the incredibly insipid film, "Independence Day." However, it's immensely superior to the shoddy flick, and is a rather brilliant exploration of the human condition. Easily one of Clarke's best novels.

Reply:I am a voracious reader and an absolute bibliophile. I have been reading since I was about 3. In my unit there are piles of books in just about every room, I have run out of room on my 5 bookshelves.

I read all different genres, and my favourite authors vary from Jane Austen to Jonathon Kellerman. The only thing I can't read is fantasy, which means I haven't been able to read Lord of the Rings, much as a part of me would love to.

Some of the classics you might like, if you can find them: A patch of blue; One flew over the cuckoos nest;
Reply:i love reading too! i like eragon, eldest, call of the wild, and alot of other books
Reply:I have been reading every since I can remember. My fave books when I was a child were the classics like "My Friend Flicka", "Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch", "Heidi" "Little Women", "Huckeberry Finn", "Tom Sawyer" oh..so many more. But since I've gotten older, I read for entertainment and to pass the time. My fave author is Diana Gabaldon and her "Outlander" series. I also have read all of Kurt Vonnegut, all of Stephen King, all of Agatha Christie, all of Janet Evanovitch and Sue Grafton, a few by Dean Koontz - "Odd Thomas" was a great book. I will read others - I have read all of Harry Potter. I like biographies and some true crime, but not much of that. Real crime is too scarey. I have read Catcher in the Rye a few times, also Farrenheit 451. I liked Animal Farm. I have read a lot of Isaac Asimov. Another good writer is Philip Jose Farmer and his "To your scattered bodies go". My to be read pile is taller than I am. And I have books everywhere. I hate to get rid of them. So many books so little time.
Reply:no way i really dont like to reading. to me reading a book is very boring.
